Abstract

 Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) is a field that studies the behaviour of a fluid that conducts electric current, which can be a liquid, ionized gas, or plasma. It is a generalization of fluid mechanics, in the particular case where there is no electromagnetic field. This paper discusses a method for determining the dimensions of a pump in the shape of an annulus. The pump design issue is structured as a nonlinear optimization problem with constraints, aiming to minimize mass by utilizing the Cuckoo Search method. Both geometrical and electromagnetic constraints are applicable in this case. The results have been reported and are being discussed.
